Students in Maranjab, Iran wait until dawn for the launch of Scottergories.com.

Students in Maranjab, Iran congregate to await the launch of Scottergories.com.

The official kickoff of Scottergories.com on July 1, 2009 was met with pleasure by Iranian Internet users, who rejoice whenever a website launches without being censured by the government. The blog’s launch was heralded as “pretty good” by “Majid,” one Iranian who stayed awake long enough to see it happen. The site launch was originally intended to occur at 3 a.m., but was postponed for several hours while the webmaster was busy washing dishes, exercising, and surfing the Internet. A handful of Iranians expressed feeling “put out” after realizing that they could have gotten a full night’s sleep instead of waiting around for the site launch, which finally occurred around 9 a.m., Tehran local time. Nevertheless, the official beginning of Scottergories.com was considered to be a success.

I have to admit that I am mildly disappointed that Iranians found out about this site long before I did.

But now I will follow with much anticipation.

Not too much anticipation, David. You see what it did to the Iranians in this case. Bitterness ensued. Glad to have you on board as the first self-proclaimed reader, though.
